Meet the Engineer Behind Vero Design

Thomas DiNapoli, P.E.

As a New York State-licensed Professional Engineer and the principal of Vero Design, I bring 20 years of experience in electrical design, construction, and project execution. A Penn State engineering graduate, I have worked on some of New York’s most high-profile projects, including multiple Hudson Yards buildings, Brooklyn Tower, and Skyline Tower. My expertise spans both the consulting and contracting sides of the industry, giving me a unique ability to bridge the gap between design intent and real-world constructability.

At the core of my approach is aggressive value engineering—identifying opportunities to optimize designs, reduce costs, and enhance constructability without compromising performance. By working closely with architects, general contractors, vendors and subcontractors, I ensure that projects are not only code-compliant and efficient but also financially optimized for long-term success.

Experience & Approach

Experience That Translates to the Field

I began my career as an electrical design consultant, spending 12 years developing power distribution layouts, lighting and control systems, communications and fire alarm designs for projects across commercial, retail, medical, industrial, education and residential sectors. I gained extensive experience performing pre-design site surveys and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.

To broaden my expertise, I transitioned to the contractor side, working in the field alongside project managers, foremen, and site teams to resolve installation challenges. This hands-on experience provided me with a deep understanding of constructability and coordination, allowing me to implement practical, cost-saving solutions that streamline installation.

One of my key strengths is collaborating with architects to reduce space requirements for trade installations while maintaining system integrity. I also work closely with mechanical and plumbing trades to seamlessly integrate all MEP systems within the required spaces. My role often involves coordinating directly with general contractors to provide solutions that benefit all subcontractors, ensuring a smooth and efficient construction process.

Beyond design and coordination, I have played a critical role in estimating and procurement—ensuring that project bids align with real-world constructability, generating RFIs to prevent costly delays, and negotiating electrical gear and equipment buyouts to secure the best possible pricing.
